Cacao & Turmeric

With the Full Benefit of Cacao known for it's medicine, I decided to combine cacao with Turmeric to make a Turmeric Butter Cup! Much like a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, I use rich dark chocolate to make a coating for a soft turmeric butter center.

Let's talk more about Curcumin which is commonly known as Turmeric:

TURMERIC has medicinal properties with bioactive compounds and is known to be an antioxidant. It helps to use a pinch of black pepper with any turmeric recipe. Piperine (CoQ10) in the black pepper enhances the absorption of the bioactive compounds in turmeric.

7 reasons to have this superfood in your diet regularly:

1. natural anti-inflammatory

2. may lower your risk of heart disease

3. may help prevent cancer

4. May be useful in treating Alzheimer’s disease

5. Arthritis patients respond well.

6. has benefits against depression

7. may help delay aging and fight age-related chronic diseases.

Of course, there are more benefits with trusted resources all over the internet. I love that it grows wild all along the roadsides in Hawaii. They call it Olena. I use it in everyday recipes for smoothies and fresh root for tea, and this recipe I am going to share with you here:

OLENA BUTTER CUPS

INGREDIENTS:

  • Cacao Powder

  • Turmeric Powder

  • Coconut Oil

  • Honey

  • Salt

  • Pepper

PREPARATION:

  • Make Cacao Paste (Butter) - Spread on parchment paper and freeze.

  • Make Turmeric Paste (Butter) - Leave out at room temperature. Place any leftovers in a Ball jar and refrigerate.

  • When ready to serve, sandwich the Turmeric Butter between two sheets of frozen Cacao Paste.

  • Cut into squares

~ Enjoy!

RECIPE:

Cacao Paste :

  • 1 cup cacao powder.

  • 1/2 cup coconut oil.

  • 1/4 cup honey.

  • Pinch of salt.

  • Mix adding more cacao powder to make a thick consistency.

  • Roll out to 1/4 inch thick on parchment paper, place in freezer until ready to serve.

Turmeric Paste:

  • 1 cup turmeric powder.

  • 1/2 cup coconut oil.

  • 1/4 (or less) honey.

  • Pinch of pepper.

  • Mix together adding more turmeric powder to make a peanut butter consistency.

  • Place in Ball jar and set in a sunny window. The sun helps the medicinal properties to be released into the coconut oil. Do this for one full day before serving. Put any leftovers in the fridge.

REVERSE PREPARATION:

Roll the Turmeric Paste into a ball. When ready to serve, mix the chocolate to a thinner consistency and dip the frozen turmeric balls into the chocolate. The cacao mixture will freeze onto the turmeric balls. You won't get the soft center, like a Reeces' tho'. Both ways of preparation are delicious & nutritious.

I leave you with this thought today ...
